Non-standard stochastic averaging of large-amplitude ship rolling in random seas

چکیده
The current intact stability criteria for ships do not account for their dynamic behaviour in irregular waves sufficiently. We provide analytical criteria for ship and sea state parameters that indicate large roll amplitudes or capsizing and determine the mean time for these events. These results can be used to formulate vulnerability criteria for the occurrence of parametric roll. We use reduced order models in order to perform an analytical analysis to this complicated problem. Therefore, we study the dynamics of a ship in random seas as a perturbation of a Hamiltonian system. The random process across the energy levels of the Hamiltonian system is approximated by a Markov process, which is obtained by stochastic averaging. The noise owing to wave excitation is a nonwhite stationary stochastic process. This is an extension to previous results, where white noise excitation was used.

Stochastic averaging for SDEs with Hopf Drift and polynomial diffusion coefficients
It is known that a stochastic differential equation (SDE) induces two probabilistic objects, namely a difusion process and a stochastic flow. While the diffusion process is determined by the innitesimal mean and variance given by the coefficients of the SDE, this is not the case for the stochastic flow induced by the SDE. In order to characterize the stochastic flow uniquely the innitesimal cov...
متن کاملSecond Generation IMO Intact Stability Vulnerability Criteria and its Application to ships Navigating in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea
Second generation intact stability criteria for few past years had been under development by International Maritime Organization (IMO). Since the draft proposed amendments shall be amended to International code on Intact Stability (IS code 2008), new regulations shall enter into force for ships of length more than 24 meter. Generally second generation intact stability criteria (SGISC) refers to...
متن کاملA two-stage stochastic programming model for the optimal sizing of hybrid PV/diesel/battery in hybrid electric ship system
Ships play the major role in bulk transportation and they need their special energy system. This paper proposes a stochastic programing method for optimal sizing of a hybrid ship power system with energy storage system (ESS), photovoltaic power (PV) and diesel generator. To account for uncertainties, in this study a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer non-linear programing is used to model the o...
متن کاملNonlinear Dynamic Analysis of Ship Capsizing in Random Waves
In this paper, the large amplitude nonlinear rolling motion and capsizing behavior of an offshore supply vessel hull-form is analyzed. In order to investigate the importance of damping, a dynamical perturbation technique (Vishnubhotla, Falzarano and Vakakis, 1998) is applied to the hull using various approximations to the roll damping. The offshore supply vessel (OSV) is probably one of the mos...
متن کاملCoupled Nonlinear Barge Motions: Part Ii: Deterministic Models Stochastic Models and Stability Analysis
A computationally efficient quasi-two-degree-of-freedom (Q2DOF) stochastic model and a stability analysis of barges in random seas are presented in this paper. Based on the deterministic 2DOF coupled Roll-Heave model with highdegree polynomial approximation of restoring forces and moments developed in Part I, an attempt is made to further reduce the DOF of the model for efficient stochastic sta...
